Otaniemi Underground Broadcasting System started out as a cable channel in the Helsinki University of Technology’s Student Union’s lineup in 1983. With the change to Aalto University, OUBS became Aalto University Student Union’s, AYY’s, cable channel.

During its peak, OUBS was broadcast in Teekkarikylä’s cable network as well as online, reaching world-wide audiences. OUBS was run by a group of seven students living in a shared flat in Jämeräntaival 1 A’s basement floor, where the studio and editing facilities were located.

OUBS was abolished by AYY on the 31st of May, 2011, and Ylioppilasmedia Aate was founded as a replacement. Aate ran its operations for a little over a year, before it was discontinued as well. Currently, OUBS ry is continuing from where OUBS left off.
